Rhode Island: CES MMA announces the next fight scheduled for CES 61. The event takes place on Friday, April 24, 2020, live on UFC Fight Pass at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
FightBook MMA previously announced that Blaine Shutt will defend his CES flyweight title for the first time against DWCS vet Richie Santiago. Also announced, Andre Soukhamthath fighting out of Lakeworth, Florida returns to the CES cage to fight Da’Mon Blackshear fighting out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, at 135 pounds. The next match added to this card is Kyle Bochniak fighting out of Boston, Massachusetts will be fighting against Jonathan Gary fighting out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at 145 pounds.
The promotion announced today that UFC vet Austin Arnett fighting out of Washington fights local legend Dinis “Sweetbread” Paiva fighting out of East Providence, Rhode Island in a featherweight action. Arnett is the third UFC castoff on this card (Bochniak, Soukhamthath). It’s hard to overstate Paiva’s popularity in New England. The Rhode Island fighter has been a pillar of New England MMA since 2010. Nobody has competed more in the CES cage than Paiva (20 pro fights, one amateur), and only one athlete in the region draws a comparable crowd (Soukhamthath).
FightBook MMA asked Austin about his thoughts on this fight, a run at the CES title and his future with the UFC:
I’m very excited to take on Dinis I know he has a big following over there on the east coast. It will make for an exciting environment. I would love to make a run for the CES title. It would be a huge accomplishment to have that on my resume. When you retire and look back on your career you want those accomplishments. I also believe that if I had the CES belt I would have the UFC calling and offering a contract to have me back on the roster.
