Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor has deleted a tweet mocking the passing of rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov in July of last year amid complications from a brief battle with the novel coronavirus.

McGregor, who posted numerous tweets in the early hours of this Tuesday morning, responded to a tweet from former lightweight champion, Khabib on July 11th. — where the retired Russian gave his thoughts on the Dubliner’s doctor’s stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 earlier this month.

Good always defeats evil,” Khabib posted. “Very happy for @DustinPoirier I hope you will get the belt end of the year.

In response last night, McGregor mocked the passing of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, questioning Khabib if COVID-19 is good for “defeating” his “evil” father.

COVID(-19) is good and father is evil?

Abdulmanap, a renowned Sambo coach in his native Dagestan, succumbed to complications from the novel coronavirus on July 3rd. last year, passing away at the age of 57.

Sharing an incredibly close bond with his father, Khabib announced his retirement from professional mixed martial arts in the immediate aftermath of his UFC 254 triangle victory over then-interim champion, Justin Gaethje — citing a promise he had made to his mother that he would not make another professional MMA walk without his father by his side.

In the following months, UFC president, Dana White transparently attempted to entice Khabib to return for one final fight in a bid to extend his perfect professional record to 30-0 — with the promotional leader filmed asking the grappler to consider a rematch with McGregor prior to the 33-year-old’s January knockout loss to Poirier.

Only in March of this year, Khabib was officially removed from the lightweight rankings, vacated his undisputed lightweight championship, and removed from the #1 spot in the pound-for-pound rankings — with Brazilian finisher, Charles Oliveira claiming the vacant title in May.

In the time since, however, Khabib has explained that he has still been contacted by his manager, Dominance MMA leader, Ali Abdelaziz per request from White as to what sum of money would interest him to snap his retirement from mixed martial arts.
