Jackson’s MMA Series XXV recap, official results and photographs

SANTA FE, NM– Jackson’s MMA Series XXV took place on Saturday June 30, 2018 at the Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino. This fight card was stacked with exciting Pro and Amateur fighters.

In the main event, Jess Martinez from Santa Fe, New Mexico training at Superior Fitness / Santa Fe Fitness and Martial Arts will be taking on Henry Barahona from Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the co-main event, Josh Moreno from California will be taking on Ryan Kelly from Tucson training at the UFC GYM North Tucson.

To start off the night we saw Daniel Martinez from Rio Rancho, NM fighting out of Westside Power Gym take on Marcus Ortega from Edgewood, NM fighting out of Judgement MMA. This fight didn’t last long as Daniel made quick work to finish the fight. They started off with kicks trying to feel each other out they clinch and Daniel was able to sink in a slick standing guillotine choke. Marcus tried to defend the choke but it was just too much for him to handle. In the end Daniel Martinez defeated Marcus Ortega by standing submission guillotine choke in Round 1 at the 2:36 mark.

Kevin Moore from Clovis, NM fighting out of Force Of One met Zacarias Rodriguez from Artesia, NM fighting out of Ge Cut. In round 1 Zacarias made quick work to take down Kevin to have top control. He started his ground and pound but Kevin was able to scramble and powered his way to top control. During the entire round Kevin tried to sink in the choke but Zacarias was able to defend the attempt until the bell rang. In round 2 it was Kevin who initiated the take down first and from there he started using his ground and pound making Zacarias work as Kevin again was looking for that choke he wanted in the first round. Another round that lasted on the mat until the bell rang. Both fighters looked tired as they should with a hard-fought two rounds. In the beginning of the third round they started off with kicks until Kevin was able to take down Zacarias to have top control. The entire round Kevin had control to the point where he almost had the arm bar but Zacarias is a very tough fighter and was able to hold on until the bell rang. All judges saw Kevin Moore defeat Zacarias Rodriguez by unanimous decision.

Nate Cullison from Pueblo, Co fighting out of Jackson’s MMA Association took on Charles Gillespie from Santa FE, NM fighting out of ANK Muay Thai. This fight was a very exciting fight as both fighters came in to end this fight quick and they did as it only lasted one round. Both fighters came in using their striking until Nate connected with a beautiful quick left cross that dropped Charles and Nate drops two more bombs and the ref saw enough and stopped the fight. Nate Cullison defeats Charles Gillespie by KO in Round 1 at the 1:53 mark.

Jesse Moorhouse from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink took on Franky Renteria from Tuscon, AZ fighting out of Undisputed MMA. To start off the fight they exchange kicks and punches to set up the clinch with Jess having his back against the cage. They started working that clinch work until they separated and Jess did connect with a punch that stumbled Franky but that was the end of the round. The second round starts and they end up on the mat with Jess taking down Franky to have top control. Both fighters are scrambling to get that submission win to where Jess had Franky in an armbar and Franky had Jesse between his legs trying to neck crank him. Jess held on to that armabar until Franky had enough and tapped out. Jesse Moorhouse defeats Franky Renteria by submission armbar in Round 2 at the 1:36 mark.

Dan Argueta from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink went against Jesse Sanders from Santa FE, NM fighting out of ANK Muay Thai. In all three rounds Dan controlled the fight using his wrestling and ground and pound. He was able to have top control and side control throughout the entire fight connecting with his strikes and elbows. A very dominate performance for Dan as all judges saw this fight the same having him win by unanimous decision.

In the co-main event of the amateur card, Brianne Jhun from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink took on Jessica Pitts from Denver, CO fighting out of gym Dark Horse Combat Club. Another fight that lasted all three rounds with the same outcome. In all three rounds Brianne was able to control the fight using her clinch work and ground game. She used her ground and pound against Jesssica smothering her as well. Jessica was able to defend some of her striking as she also used her heel to soften up Briannes thighs. Another dominate performance as all judges saw this fight in favor of Brianne by unanimous decision.

In the main event of the amateur card, Andre Mitchell from Rio Rancho, NM fighting out of Westside Power Gym took on Josiah Reyes from Santa FE, NM fighting out of Superior Fitness / Santa FE Fitness and Martial Arts. In the first round Andre was able to take down Josiah after a quick clinch against the cage. Jess started using his ground and pound as Josiah was able to defend not to get so much damage. After a quick scramble Andre was able to get Josiah’s back trying to sink in the rear naked choke. Josiah defends very well they scramble and Josiah was able to get top control and started dropping bombs and the bell rang. They start off the second round and Josiah came in quick connecting with his punches that hurt Andre and that’s when Josiah had him in a Muay Thai clinch and started hitting him with a flurry of knees until one drops Andre to his knees and the ref saw enough and stops the fight. Josiah Reyes defeats Andre Mitchell by TKO knees in Round 2 at the 0:36 mark.

We start with the pro card with Jess Tafoya from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink as he took on Jorge Martinez making his pro debut is from Denver CO fighting out of Factory X. They start round one feeling each other out until Jess takes down Jorge and started using his ground and pound. Jorge was able to defend most of the punches trying not to get hurt and get much damage. Jess was using his wrestling to control the fight until the bell rang. The second round starts and Jorge with a beautiful Capoeira kick that connects and drops him. Jorge takes advantage and sinks in a choke he picks him up and ends the fight still holding on with a standing guillotine choke. Jorge Martinez defeats Jesse Tafoya by standing submission guillotine choke in Round 2 at the 1:09 mark.

in the co-main event, Josh Moreno from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink took on Ryan Kelly from North Tuscon, AZ fighting out of UFC Gym. This fight was a back and forth fight as it only lasted two rounds. They both put a show leaving it all in the cage. They both were able to use their ground game until Josh was able to get top control and started using his ground and pound until the bell rang. The start of the second round, Josh was able to connect with a beautiful uppercut that drops Ryan and that s when Josh took control and sinks in a nice guillotine choke holds on until Ryan taps out. Josh Moreno defeats Ryan Kelly by submission guillotine choke in Round 2 at the 1:42 mark.

In the main event, Henry Barahona from Albuquerque, NM fighting out of JacksonWink took on Jess Martinez from Santa FE, NM fighting out of Superior Fitness / Santa FE Fitness and Martial Arts. This fight started off quick with Jess taking Henry down and ends on top control. Jess started using his ground game softening him up with shots to the body and to the head. Henry was doing very well not to get much damage, Jess started to attempt to sink in a choke but Henry defended very well. The start of the second round both fighters started using their striking game and both connecting. Jess used his wrestling to get to the clinch and Jess was able to capitalize to take Henry down. Again Jess with the choke attempt and Henry defending very well until the bell rang. In the third round Jess takes down Henry they scramble and Henry as top position and makes quick work using his ground and pound. Jess scrambles and is able to take Henry’s back, sinks in the choke, and that’s when Henry taps out. Jess Martinez defeats Henry Barahona by submission rear naked choke in Round 3 at the 4:09 mark.
