The co-headlining slot of UFC 274 on May 7. is set – with an undisputed strawweight championship rematch between division champion, Rose Namajunas, and the streaking inaugural UFC and Invicta FC division titleholder, Carla Esparza added to the event. The pay-per-view showcase is set to take place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Initially meeting back in December 2014 in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 20 – Esparza became the first strawweight champion in promotional history with a third round rear-naked choke over fellow finalist, Namajunas.

In the time since, Namajunas, the current undisputed champion has twice clinched the strawweight crown – landing the second successful defense of her second reign back in November with a unanimous decision rematch win against Zhang Weili at Madison Square Garden.

Team Oyama staple, Esparza on the other hand has turned in an impressive five consecutive victories recently, stopping recent UFC 272 feature, Yan Xiaonan with a series of ground strikes back in May at UFC Vegas 27. News of Namajunas’ re-run against Esparza was initially reported by Italian reporter, Alfredo Zullino

Beginning her second title reign back in April of last year, Namajunas, the first in divisional history to twice mint herself as champion, stopped the aforenoted, Weili with a stunning first round, quickfire high-kick knockout.

For Esparza, among her recent string of victories, the Torrance veteran has defeated the likes of the above mentioned, Xiaonan, Brazilian striker, Marina Rodriguez, fellow former Invicta FC champion, Michelle Waterson, and Virna Jandiroba to name a few.

UFC 274 takes place on May 7. from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona – with an undisputed lightweight title fight between current division champion, Charles Oliveira, and former interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje slated to headline the event.

A pivotal lightweight matchup between one-time title challenger, Michael Chandler, and another former interim gold holder, Tony Ferguson was also recently confirmed for the Copper State card.
