Richie Santiago: “It’s time for me to get that belt!”

Richie “Suave” Santiago sat down with Fightbook MMA before the Contender Series vet challenges champ Blaine Shutt for the CES flyweight title at CES 61 on April 24 in Lincoln, R.I., LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

Simply enough, why did you want this fight so badly?

I wanted this fight because I saw him win the title at CES 60, after my most recent fight. I think I match up well. Most importantly, I want to bring the title back home.

What does Blaine Shutt bring to the table?

Blaine is very experienced and he’s fought some really tough guys. He’s definitely a big challenge for me.

What’s the most likely outcome for this fight?

Most likely I get my hand raised and I plan on finishing it early.

How’s it going to feel to have that belt wrapped around your waist?

It’s going to feel great; I’ve been with CES since my first pro fight and it’s time for me to get that belt.

What would you like to accomplish in 2020?

After I capture this belt in April, I want to put my name in the hat for UFC or Contender Series, and I’m going to get a contract.
