Southwest MMA Series XXX Recap and Official Results
SANTA FE, NM: Southwest MMA Series returns to the beautiful Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino to host their 30th event on Saturday, January 11, 2020. The promotion will host SMMAS XXX and this event will be headlined by Aaron Perls vs. Roy Saucedo.
Below you will find the recap and official results. This event will have 1 pro fight 5 amateur fights and 2 Bjj matches.
The Southwest MMA Series XXX official results include:
Pro Fight:
(R) Aaron Perls vs. (B) Roy Saucedo
Round 1: These pro fighters start fast and both are landing their shots with bad intentions. After a scramble against the cage, Aaron is able to take down Roy and gets top position. Aaron is looking for a submission and is able to almost sinks in a head arm choke. After a scramble, Roy gives his back to Aaron and that’s where he capitalizes and sinks in the rear-naked choke at the 3:27 mark.
Amateur Card:
(R) Lydia Warren vs. (B) Veronica Garcia
Round 1: They start this fight quick. They both land their strikes. Lydia lands a clean punch that drops Veronica and Lydia starts using her ground and pound. Veronica takes these punches like a champ until the ref saw enough and stops the fight. Lydia is able to defeat Veronica by TKO at the 2:08 mark.
(R) Nathaniel Torrez vs. (B) Jordan Gloria
Round 1: Both fighters start the fight with a feel out process. After both fighters drop some strikes, Nathaniel is able to sink in a stand-up guillotine choke and Jordan couldn’t answer the submission and taps out at the 1:49 mark.
Jui Jitsu Supermatch (One 10 minute Round):
(R) Jesse Tafoya vs. (B) Gregory Hassman
Gregory starts on the floor being that he only has one leg. Jesse is able to grab him and get the top position. Gregory using his slick Bjj is able to defend some of Josses submission attempts. Jesse is on side control. After a scramble, Jesse is able to sink in the submission and Gregory taps due to guillotine choke at the 4:22 mark.
Amateur Card:
(R) Esai Dimas vs. (B) David Hudson
Round 1: As expected in the straweight division it’s a fast-paced fight. They end up on the mat and both fighters scramble to get the position. David ends up in top position trying to sink in a submission. They stand up and David tries to sink in a choke but they end up again on the mat. With a quick scramble, David is able to defeat Esai via Tapout at the 2:36 mark.
(R) Jackson Nwokeoma vs. (B) Mark Hussey
Round 1: Both athletes making their Amateur debut. Mark right away gets a body lock while Jackson is dropping punches to the face trying to get Mark to let go. The ref saw enough and broke them off the cage. They end up again in the clinch with some action until the bell rang.
Round 2: After a couple of shots from both fighters, Mark is able to take down Jackson to end up in side control. Jackson is keeping himself busy trying to stand up. Mark at one point was looking for the head in arm choke but wasn’t able to sink in. The fight ended with Mark keeping Jackson on the mat.
Round 3: They start the fight in the clinch with Jackson having his back against the cage. Mark is able to take down Jackson and ends up on side control. Both fighters staying busy on the mat until the bell rang. Mark defeats Jackson via unanimous decision.
(R) Kristopher Kristian vs. (B) Bobby Griego
Round 1: These two wasted no time and started the action quick. Kristopher takes down Bobby but he is able to get top position while Kristopher utilizing his size and strength to get back on their feet. Kristopher picks up Bobby and slams him to the ground. After a quick transition, Bobby starts to drop some elbows until the bell rang.
Round 2: Kristopher right away goes for the takedown but lands on his back and Bobby is able to get the top position. Bobby starts dropping elbows and punches but Kristopher is able to take the shots until the ref saw enough and stopped the fight. Bobby defeats Kristopher at the 2:50 mark via TKO.
Jui Jitsu Supermatch (One 10 minute Round):
Austin Lewis vs. Charles Gillespie:
They start off quick with Charles taking Austin down getting top position. Both athletes trying to get to a position for the submission. Austin makes quick work and almost sinks in the triangle choke but Charles is able to escape. Charles still top position on side-mount. Austin gives his back to Charles. Charles controlling Austin’s wrist and controlling the match trying to sink in the choke. Austin is able to defend. Charles is trying to set up that triangle choke but Austin is being relentless and defending the submission attempts. Charles makes quick work setting up the arm-bar but Austin escapes and is able to sink in his own arm-bar and Charles taps at 9:01 mark. What a show these guys put on for the fans here in Santa Fe, NM.
