CES Boxing’s popular podcast series, CES Boxing Classics, returns tonight with a new episode featuring a young, up-and-coming Chad Dawson in one of the toughest, early tests of his brilliant career.
On a night headlined by CES Boxing icons Scott “The Sandman” Pemberton and Gary “Tiger” Balletto, few in attendance at Foxwoods Resort Casino on March 21, 2003, knew they were witnessing a future pound-for-pound great when “Bad” Chad Dawson faced “Slik” Willie Lee. The 20-year-old Dawson boasted a 10-0 record. Lee, a 23-year-old southpaw with a 10-1 record, represented Dawson’s toughest test to date. “Bad” Chad would go on to capture the first of his two world titles in 2007, beginning a five-year stretch in which he toppled any and all contenders in the light heavyweight division. On this night in 2003, he was an up-and-coming prospect patiently awaiting his opportunity to shine. Enjoy this look back at history!
The action streams live beginning at 8 pm ET on CES Boxing’s YouTube and Facebook platforms.
