A tincture is a liquid extract made by soaking one substance in another substance.
The most common liquid used to make tinctures is alcohol, but you can also use an oil, a vinegar, or a glycerin.
In the case of a CBD tincture in the UK, this is when we steep cannabis flowers or isolates (derived from hemp) in a high-proof grain alcohol, and then apply a low heat for a significant span of time. This allows the active compounds in cannabis to infuse into the neutral spirit, much of which is then boiled off.
A CBD tincture offers an extended shelf life because alcohol acts as a preservative.
The CBD oil from a tincture can then be added to food and beverages for oral ingestion or taken directly under your tongue via liquid droplets from a dropper.
The sublingual route of administration – dropping it under your tongue, waiting a few seconds, and then swallowing – is more advantageous relative to oral administration (in a CBD edible for example) because:
- The CBD is rapidly absorbed into your system
- The onset of action is quicker and more efficient
- The CBD does not have to wait until it is fully metabolized through your liver
- It is easier to take for people who have swallowing difficulties
The whole process – from the time you hold the liquid drops under your tongue to the time you feel their effects – takes about 15 minutes.
Feeling the effects from a CBD tincture is a bit slower than smoking or vaping, but it’s a lot faster than consuming CBD edibles like gummies.
A CBD tincture in the UK will often contain 60 to 70 percent alcohol, which gives a bitter taste to the finished product. Therefore, the tincture is mixed with taste enhancers like sweet additives, mild oils and flavoring in order to mask the bitterness.
Some products contain additional ingredients like vitamins, herbal extracts, caffeine, vegetable glycerin, or supplements like melatonin to match your needs other than CBD.
Figuring out the correct dosage for yourself will depend on your body weight, your metabolism and tolerance to CBD, the concentration and quality of the CBD you’re taking, and the severity of your condition.
In general, only several drops of a CBD tincture is usually needed to get the full effect.
Although the product’s label will give you the amount of CBD per serving, you’re going to need to experiment with your CBD tincture dose to find out what is most effective for you, as we are all different!
So maybe start with one full dropper per day and maintain this dose for three days to give your body time to adjust, and from there you can increase or decrease the dose to your liking.
While more research is needed, a CBD tincture in the UK seems to offer promising results in easing symptoms of certain health conditions. This includes:
- It can alleviate pain
- It may decrease anxiety and depression
- It may reduce acne
- It can promote relaxation and sleep
- It can reduce some types of seizures
- It can treat bacterial growth and inflammation
- It can increase your appetite
As is clear from the above a CBD tincture is an extremely attractive natural supplement to try, but, as with anything, it is important to do your own research to find the best CBD tincture for sale. Whether it’s your first time taking CBD or you’re an experienced user, look for CBD tincture that uses premium CBD, comes with a recent, clear, and comprehensive certificate of authenticity (COA) and has done all the necessary lab testing and quality checks.
