Dean Garnett Eyes Dizy Or Second Title After HXMMA 8

London: Dean Garnett is in the final stages of fight camp for his HEXAGONE MMA title shot. Following a KO victory 20 seconds into round 1 at HEXAGONE MMA 6 in January, Garnett is ready to consolidate his comeback by securing the promotion’s world featherweight title. In France’s original bullfighting ring, Beziers Arena, on 3 June, Garnett is set to face Lucas Corbage of Nova União Argentina at HEXAGONE MMA 8. The bout will be broadcast on DAZN in 150+ countries.

Yesterday at Aspire Combat Sports Academy in Liverpool, Garnett was confident about defeating his opponent: “I’ve watched his last two fights and if he’s not massively improved from those two performances, he’s in for a real tough night.  He’s a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt so I’m expecting him to be savvy on the ground but in terms of his wrestling and striking ability, he’s a little bit all over the place, in my opinion. I’m going to pick him apart for that because I’m very disciplined, and he isn’t.”

Talking about his training focus in this camp; “My focus has heavily been on my conditioning because it’s a five-round fight. I feel like I’m more skilled than the other guy. I’ve been doing 5-rounders week-in-week-out with probably better sparring partners than my opponent. So,… I’m confident…I’ll be able to do what I want to do on the night.”

Counting on a win, Garnett’s next goals are: “I’m potentially considering dropping down to bantamweight as I’m a very small featherweight. But if I do stay at Featherweight, I’ve seen Anthony Dizy signed with HEXAGONE MMA. He’s the next weight up from me, but when he was fighting on PFL it was at featherweight. If I go down to Bantam, then it would be amazing to be the HEXAGONE MMA double champion.”

However, Garnett is holding back on any message to fans or to his opponent just yet: “At 34 now, I just like doing my work behind the scenes and letting my fighting do the talking. I can sit here saying I’m going to do this and I’m going to do that, but I have to just get out there and do it… And it’s going to be nicer when I’m getting my hand raised and I’m getting my HEXAGONE MMA belt around my waist. That’s when I think I’m going to give my burning message to the world when I’ve got that sense of achievement.”
